Normal Day

Normal day,
let me be aware of the treasure you are.
Let me learn from you,
love you,
bless you before you depart.
Let me not pass you by
in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow.
Let me hold you while I may,
for it may not always be so.
One day I shall dig my nails into the earth,
or bury my face in the pillow,
or stretch myself taut,
or raise my hands to the sky and want,
more than all the world, your return.

Litany, by Billy Collins

This is amazing.  Not only is this poem beautiful, but the fact that this 3 year old memorized and recited it is almost incomprehensible!

Litany, by Billy Collins
"You are the bread and the knife,

the crystal goblet and the wine.
You are the dew on the morning grass
and the burning wheel of the sun.
You are the white apron of the baker,
and the marsh birds suddenly in flight.

However, you are not the wind in the orchard,
the plums on the counter,
or the house of cards.
And you are certainly not the pine-scented air.
There is just no way that you are the pine-scented air.

It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge,
maybe even the pigeon on the general's head,
but you are not even close
to being the field of cornflowers at dusk.

And a quick look in the mirror will show
that you are neither the boots in the corner
nor the boat asleep in its boathouse.

It might interest you to know,
speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
that I am the sound of rain on the roof.

I also happen to be the shooting star,
the evening paper blowing down an alley
and the basket of chestnuts on the kitchen table.

I am also the moon in the trees
and the blind woman's tea cup.

But don't worry, I'm not the bread and the knife.
You are still the bread and the knife.
You will always be the bread and the knife,
not to mention the crystal goblet and--somehow--the wine."

DIY Oilcloth Bag

I just made my first Oilcloth project.  A zipper pouch from this gorgeous oilcloth I purchased at CityCraft here in Dallas.  This particular bag is also lined with the oilcloth for easy cleaning!  I just love the pink and black combo!

What do you think? Would you buy it if it were on my etsy store?  Maybe I'll make a few more.. i'm thinking of making the next ones with just oilcloth lining and a canvas exterior.... sounds appealing?

Pizza Pizza

As many of you know, I have gluten sensitivity and therefore steer clear of any items containing gluten (unless I can somehow convince myself that my stomach will be fine if I ingest 4 Krispy Kream donuts in one sitting).  But on Sunday, Chris and I were hungry and ran into BJs Brewhouse for a quick bite to eat before furniture shopping.  And low and behold! A Gluten Free Pizza Menu appeared!  Now, let me tell you, pizza is one thing I often crave and can't have, so when a gluten free version is presented to me I have to try it.  The only other successful GF pizza I've eaten is from Fireside Pies and it is tasty, however, I must say that this pizza was delicious!  Even Chris kept trying to eat my pizza slices even though he had a juicy bun covered burger.  Lucky Man.
